POKOTABI / Yakiniku Genzan
焼肉 元山
Musashi-Koyama's Yakiniku Genzan serves up robustly seasoned salt-grilled tongue and skirt steak alongside rare Wagyu cuts and comforting Korean-style sides in a lively dining room.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
When the craving calls for savoury, well-seasoned grilled beef accompanied by beer and steaming bowls of rice, Yakiniku Genzan in Musashi-Koyama hits the mark. The kitchen is best known for its punchy salt seasoning, laced with an assertive hint of garlic. Cut after cut arrives seasoned and ready for the grate, with regulars often making a beeline for the crisp, savoury salted tongue and intensely juicy salted skirt steak.
Those who prefer richer marinades will find classic cuts of short rib and loin hand-rubbed in the house sauce, along with offal choices such as crunchy mino (rumen) and shimacho. The menu extends further into premium Wagyu selections, featuring thick-cut skirt steak, lean misuji (top blade), and choice kainomi (flap meat), as well as chilled plates like fresh Wagyu heart sashimi and horsemeat yukhoe.
Between rounds of grilling, side dishes keep the meal grounded. The signature Genzan Salad pairs generous helpings of fresh vegetables with a house dressing, alongside assorted kimchi and namul. To round out the table, the kitchen turns out warming dishes such as sizzling stone-pot bibimbap, soothing soups with rice (gukbap), and noodle bowls like spicy yukgaejang and rich ox-tail gomtang.
Drinks range from draft beer and Kakubin highballs to makgeolli, Guinness, and fruit sours. With its unpretentious, bustling atmosphere, the dining room is a natural choice for relaxed family gatherings and casual weeknight dinners with friends.
